You might know why Mera from Aquaman looks so familiar - Mera is Amber Heard! But how well do you really know Amber Heard? You know about the Amber Heard Johnny Depp divorce, and the allegations against both of them, but did you know that Depp and Amber Heard met on the set of Rum Diary? The two married in 2015, and then divorced shortly thereafter with Heard accusing Depp of domestic abuse, and eventually he did the same to her.
Heard first caught attention in North Country, where she played a teen version of Charlize Theron’s character. That was way back in 2005 - and from there she appeared on 2007’s Hidden Palms - a short lived CW Dawson’s Creek style show. Amber Heard then pivoted to movies, with some smaller roles up until the movie that really got her known - Pineapple Express. Heard played Seth Rogen’s love interest in the movie and managed to hold her own between James Franco and Rogen. Heard also had a bit role - albeit a memorable one - in Zombieland. She played the neighbor who is bitten by a zombie early in the film and prompts Columbus on his adventure.
Oddly, before Aquaman, Amber Heard might be best recalled for her leading role in All The Boys Love Mandy Lane - but the story behind that is more interesting than the movie. Shot in 2006, Mandy Lane didn’t hit theaters until 2013, well after her other roles that launched her career and after her well publicized relationship with Johnny Depp.
